About the Company

Jim Klavano the company founder designs all of the company's footwear. His innovative design allowed him to produce a slipper that was affordable, but at the same time well constructed, comfortable, and durable. He founded his company with three overriding principals: Reward exceptional performance, pay "massive" attention to detail, and give back to the community.

Early on, Jim decided to look for causes that inspired him and give to those causes a percentage of profits annually. This he has done - giving a percentage of profits each year to Alex's Lemonade Stand (www.alexslemonadestand.com), a fundraising effort to fund pediatric cancer research, and regularly donates product to people in need. Recently, he donated sheepskin boots to children of the Sioux Indian nation in South Dakota. Ultimately, he believes the good karma generated by doing good, helps his company also do well. As he says, "Everything starts with a step."

Bo: the company's mascot, inspiration, and loyal friend:

The prevalent logo of a dog holding up its masters slippers is everywhere at Old Friend Footwear. The dog behind the logo is now departed. A female golden retriever, Bo faithfully accompanied founder Jim to work everyday where she curled up on - what else - her sheepskin rug nestled at his feet. Jim still tears up when he talks about his loyal friend and work companion. Bo, his old friend, is not unlike the kinship people have for their slippers. In this spirit he named his company Old Friend and made Bo the icon of his brand.
